Don't forget your pets! An evacuation order for a Hurricane can lead to chaos
Avoid The Stress
Many tragic stories have been told of pets being lost or refused in shelters. It's very important to have your plans made in advance as to what you are going to do with your pet should an evacuation warning be issued.
If you decide to ride out an impending storm, make sure your supplies include enough food, water and any medications your pet might require.
Check Shelter Policies
Many hurricane shelters will accept pets. But again, looking ahead is important here as well. A common requirement is to have your pet registered at your nearest shelter This is in effect to protect all involved as it assures everyone at the shelter that any pet there has updated vaccinations.
Evacuations are stressful enough without pets. But as a pet owner, you need to take on the extra responsibility of looking ahead and registering at your shelter.
